Off on a Great Adventure
For the next two weeks I’ll be backwater canoeing, portaging, fishing, and wilderness camping with my son and three of my teenage grandsons.
It’s a “man vs. wild” kind of thing!
We’re headed 800 miles north to Ely, Minnesota, and the backwater canoe country (we call it ca-noe – get it?), and crossing into Canada.
My three grandsons have never been outside the USA and they think this international crossing is going to be a big deal – like crossing the dotted line on the ocean at the equator, right?
But seriously, as I told each of them, when you go out into the wilderness as we are doing – no cars, no roads, no hotels, no MacDonalds, no easy way out of trouble, and cell phones don’t work – guess what?
You are no longer at the top of the food chain.
Do you know what that means?
It means there are things out there, bigger and smaller, that will eat you.
So I’m definitely looking forward to being back again in two weeks.
In the meantime, your prayers are definitely appreciated.
